Family Weekender

The Mosaic Weekender was designed to provide families with a chance to step away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, grounding themselves in nature and fostering community with fellow believers. Although we've only been at Mosaic for a couple of years and missed out on previous events like this, we've heard so many fond memories and stories from those who have attended in the past.

Our planning team spent a lot of time discussing the schedule to ensure it was balanced. We wanted to dive deeper into the Emotionally Healthy Discipleship series we had just completed in our Home Groups, while also making space for rest and recreation. It was important to us that the event didn’t feel like a conference, but rather an opportunity to lift up the core values of Mosaic—strong families, biblical literacy, living life together, and a kingdom-oriented focus. Our goal was to weave these values throughout the weekend.

Weeks before the Weekender, our planning team visited Mt. Lebanon to walk the campgrounds, get familiar with the layout, and thoughtfully plan how our time together would unfold. We left feeling excited about the possibilities this weekend would bring to our Mosaic family.

Just a few weeks before the event, Stephen shared with the leadership about his conversations with Tyler regarding a potential merge or replant. As we explored this possibility, it was suggested that we invite Crossroads to join the Weekender. This would give us the opportunity to connect beyond just worshiping together, allowing both church families to grow closer. The result was a wonderful mix of families from both churches coming together to learn, play, and fellowship.

From grilling in the cold and preparing meals in a tiny kitchen to playing games, having fireside chats, and engaging in teaching and worship, the weekend was full of opportunities to bond and grow together. By the end, we were all physically exhausted but spiritually and emotionally renewed. One of the highlights for me was seeing how involved the kids were. While the adults had their sessions, the kids had their own lesson, based on the same topics but tailored to be kid-friendly. It was such a joy to support families so they can continue these teachings as they head home, which will help foster deeper conversations and growth.

Sunday morning we had a few more families join us for our final time of worship together. Not all families could come and stay the weekend, so this was a great way to have everyone together for a time of worship, but not necessarily have to sleep on a bunk bed. :)

We wrapped up the weekend with a leadership meeting after everyone had left camp. This gave us time to debrief and reflect on the experience. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and encouraging, and while we discussed how to adjust the schedule’s pace for future events, it was clear that both church families had a meaningful and impactful time together.

All in all, it was a beautiful and refreshing weekend where both Mosaic and Crossroads learned, laughed, and grew together in the chilly January air of Texas.-Jessica Cogsdil
